Members of UNUKUPUKUPU will be performing at ʻImiloa Astronomy Center for UH-Hilo's Fall 2008 "Welcome" Event, Thursday August 21st, 2008. The performance starts at 6:15pm.
Members of Unukupukupu along with musicians Sean Nāleimaile and Kīhei Nahale-a enjoy a cultural exchange night with community members from Yurihama-Cho. Also in the picture are the Mayor and Vice-Mayors of Yurihama-Cho as well a a beautiful geisha who performed a hauntingly seductive dance for us.
*UNUKUPUKUPU is the name of the rigorous didactic and experiential hula curricula of Dr. Taupōuri Tangarō.
*UNUKUPUKUPU extends beyond the college halls, reaching our families and communities- local and global
*UNUKUPUKUPU also produces, organically, a network for support and lifelong, Earth-centric learning.
*UNUKUPUKUPU’s most empowering component is that the door to continued participation in hula is open far after college graduation. Here former and current learners, as well as their families, continue their individual and collective life journey through hula.
*UNUKUPUKUPU has hula learners in West Hawaii, Kōhala, Hilo, in the City of Carson California, and at three public charter schools: Ke Ana Laʻahana and Ka ʻUmeke Kāʻeo of Keaukaha, and Kanuokaʻāina of Kōhala
